My Review Of Wicked Game By Jeri Smith-Ready

WickedGame_coverWicked Game by Jeri Smith-Ready is a modern vampire chronicle that follows Ciara (Keer-ah) a young con artist looking to make her life legit. Almost. She takes a job that is something that gets her pulse up and blends her passion with her abilities. Soon she learns the supernatural nature of her new co-workers and becomes part of a world she only conceived in fairytales. The radio station where she finds a new home and new friends are actually vampires trying to cope with life outside of feeding. To just maintain some since of who they are in a world that seems to constantly change.

Wicked Game is wicked smart. The novel manages to stay shy of the cliché and mediocre stereotypes of vampire stories and never forces the cool factor. That just comes naturally in Jeri Smith-Ready’s ability to bring these characters to life. Much like a very popular television show manages to do (at least in the first 4 seasons) this story maintains a thrilling adventurous read. It has a fresh and modern spin on the lore of the undead that is refreshing and fun to read. There is almost no low moments in the story as the world of WVMP comes alive. The plot just hits an almost full throttle approach and never lets go. The vampires within this tale are not tacky or cheesy. They have a lot of bite!! This is one of the coolest and exciting novels that I have read where vamps are the main subject matter in a long while. Plus this novel is easy to read an more mature than Ready’s “Paranormal” trilogy, which was also a great read. Wicked Game however is for a more mature audience and is an intense saga filled with carnage and bloodletting. A great read and if you haven’t read it already you really should be reading it now! This is book one in a trilogy series by the talented Jeri Smith-Ready.

Check Out The Sales Art For “The Darkness”

Daniel Stamm’s new horror/ thriller “The Darkness” is currently at the AFM and has shown the first artwork for the flick. Daniel Stamm who’s last horror “The Last Exorcism” kept with a very surreal and ominous tone will surely be keeping with the style that has made him so well known in this dark film that reads in a very sinister fashion. The plot is reminiscent of some other dark stories about babysitting that have came out in the past few years but the way this synopsis reads there could be some questionable deception and twist teases through the story playing on the audience ability to figure out the truth of the plot. I already have a suspicion  based on the twisted images the plot forms in my dark mind. A strange and yet alluring gentlemen and a young naïve student form a casual relationship that she hopes to spark into something more. She agrees to babysit in a scary sterile home for the man’s daughters. I feel it will be “the house possessed, are the daughters merely ghosts, or is there something more sinister at play?”. That is just my vibe from the film but it reads very interestingly. Check out the synopsis for yourselves…

Sally, a young American student, becomes obsessed with her charismatic professor, Charles. He convinces Sally to spend the summer babysitting his two young children at his country estate. When Charles goes on a business trip Sally finds herself alone in the remote and imposing mansion. She suspects that the children know something about the house that they are not telling her, or perhaps it’s the house itself that is keeping secrets.

New “Texas Chainsaw 3D” Poster Does Nothing For Me

I hate to one of those people because I really have no big issue against remakes. I learned over the years to view them totally separate from my beloved franchises that I grew up on. However even though I first was thrilled about the new “TCM” flick being made the more I see and hear on this film just does more to dissolve my excitement for the movie. Now with this new poster I am already bored. The mask is irritating because they went in the opposite direction by making it look less like the iconic Leatherface mask instead of making a more enhanced awesome version of the mask. This one just looks like a bad mud facial thing instead of someone’s actual face skin. However I will still see the film and it’s mediocre premise play out just don’t think it will happen for me at the theatre.
TCMLionsgate’s TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D continues the legendary story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace. The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible. Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends. Word around the small town quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family – or so they thought.
Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion’s dank cellars.

“5 Dark Souls” Gets First Time DVD Release

Controversial film “5 Dark Souls” gets DVD release for 15th anniversary. The film has not had a re-issue since it’s original VHS release back in then, way before Columbine or the string of school shootings since. The disc (available today direct from distributor Tempevideo.com) offers a re-edited version of the feature, an extensive photo gallery, a commentary track by director Collum and 2012 editor Derrick Carey, plus a trailer gallery featuring ten of Collum's twelve directorial efforts spanning from his 1995 debut feature MARK OF THE DEVIL 666 to his just released documentary SCREAMING IN HIGH HEELS (currently airing on NBCUniversal's Chiller TV and out on unrated DVD through Breaking Glass Pictures). The title will roll out to other online retailers like Amazon and DVD Empire on Tuesday, November 13th.
5 dark souls
Released to VHS in 1997, the indie movie was the debut outing for many actors such as Chris Harder (EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES), Karen Dilloo (the upcoming SAFE INSIDE) and Darcey Vanderhoef (DEADLY STINGERS). It also featured Tina Ona Paukstelis (whose film ASWANG: THE UNEARTHING was the first horror film ever to screen at Sundance) and Mick Wynhoff (who starred opposite Danny Bonaduce in the original cinema verite video film AMERICA'S DEADLIEST HOME VIDEO in 1991). Director Jason Paul Collum, who went on to author three books and work as an editor at Femme Fatales and Cinefantastique magazines, remains surprised at the longevity of his second feature film. "We made 5 DARK SOULS over nine very long winter and summer months in 1996 with essentially no money and a group of very dedicated friends," he recalls. "It did very well for Moore Video, but then virtually disappeared in the early 2000s, yet I have continued to receive fan and inquiry letters from curiosity seekers as recently as last week. Interest in it seems to never end. I just got a letter from someone who paid $80 for an original VHS on eBay. So I decided to put it back out for those folks who've been seeking it out. This is the one and only time I'm planning to revisit it, so it's now or never people."

Three years before Columbine permanently changed the lives of American teenagers and a decade before bullying became a national conversation, 5 DARK SOULS sowed the evil seeds of darkened teenage psyches curious about murder. Led by domineering senior class president John, a group of high school students trick three unpopular classmates into the woods to make a snuff movie “just to see what it’s like to kill someone.” After one of the teens is slaughtered in a bizarre ritual, the survivors must run for their lives without weapons for protection or other people for help!

“TBM 2” Now “Coffin Baby”

tbm 2 aka coffin babyThe sequel to the brutal but awesome remake of “The Toolbox Murders” has a new name. The follow up to Tobe Hooper’s flick is now going by the name “Coffin Baby”. Either way based on the promo trailer it is going to fucking kick ass. The film is being directed by Dean C. Jones and looks like it will be a wild ride into the horrific world of the TBK (Toolbox Killer). Check it out below.
