New Clip From “Mr. Jones”

mr. jones[3]Check out this clip from the horror thriller “Mr. Jones”. Just who is Mr. Jones? And Why is he trying to bust in this couple’s front door? “Mr. Jones” is directed by Karl Mueller and stars stars Jon Foster, Sarah Jones, Mark Steger. The film is a journey into a nightmare that’s so real, even daylight brings no relief.

Scott and Penny just moved to a remote cabin to escape the pressures of the world and breathe new life into their art.  Their only neighbor for miles is a strange hermit who only comes out at night, under the shroud of darkness. He never acknowledges them, never speaks--never does anything except drag his strange, disturbing sculptures deep into the woods, night after night, without rest. As Scott and Penny get deeper into his world, they start to suspect that this man is actually an infamous, reclusive artist known only as "Mr. Jones," and they've stumbled across a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to document his bizarre existence.

Trailer Released For Low Budget Possession Flick “Victoria’s Exorcism”

victoria's exorcism"Victoria's Exorcism" is a story about a young girl and her family as they go through a horrifying reality while she becomes possessed by demonic forces. The film is directed by Garrett Benach and stars Tara Marie Kirk, Rollyn Stafford, Petra Boyd. From the trailer that has been released there are some obvious parallels to recent exorcism movies that have come out-mostly Abaddon. I fear he is this generation’s Pazuzu or Balial.

Throughout the film we experience the ways a family deals with situations beyond their control and how they fight to overcome them. The story is filled with both intense emotion as well as a bone-tingling fear that will keep you at the edge of your seats. Only when the possession takes place does the family bond get stronger and the relationships between them get tested to their limits.

My Review Of “Bad Kids Go To Hell” 2012

Bad_Kids_Go_to_Hell“Bad Kids Go To Hell” is Director Matthew Spradlin’s dark, twisted homage to 80’s teen movies, as only Americana contemporary film can. Co-written with Barry Wernick, the story follows a group of teens from the complete color wheel of personality mind-fucked. It is an obvious sinister retelling, or new vision, on Hughes “Breakfast Club” where teens personal, and social turmoil's are exposed and forced into resolution. Only in “Bad Kids Go To Hell” the forced realization comes at the hands of one hell of a twisted, sinister story. The plot follows this group of elitist offspring serving detention for, well-you know-being a teen with too much privilege, without supervision, just trying to deal with school and life shit! Cause hey, that shit is hard-we all have been there! The film stars Amanda Alch, Chanel Ryan, Marc Donato, Augie Duke, Roger Edwards, Ali Faulkner, Cameron Deane Stewart, Ben Browder and Judd Nelson.  The official plot goes like this:  Six prep school kids from Crestview Academy, home to the spoiled offspring of society's elite, find themselves stuck in detention on a frightfully dark and stormy Saturday afternoon. During their 8-hour detention, each of the six kids falls victim to a horrible "accident" until only one of them remains. I am not going into detail as to the depth of how or why they fall victim as to not give away any spoilers. Just my review and thoughts on the movie.

Everything about “Bad Kids Go To Hell” is almost perfect in it’s utilization of nostalgia it tries to capture, with all the tribute images and backdrops that so epically scream “John Hughes”. From the library, the character traits of the kids, (only more modern and less wholesome), who make up the cast, right down to the awesome Judd Nelson cameo as Head Master. The flaw (which is minor) is that it seemed to go hardcore in referencing the 80’s high school flick but sadly no real dialogue reverb from the movie, what - not one kid could have found a way to declare “I wanna be just like you. I figure all I need, is a lobotomy and some tights”. Okay, I know new decade , new social commentary. The film does have some very awesome quotable moments that I loved, my fave “I don’t worship the devil, I just promote him”. The cast where killer in their role and all had more than enough back story and depth of personality to bring the characters to life. I did want a bit more bravado, overt-expression from a couple of the characters. I thought they where more subdued than they should have been, but still the acting was stellar. Plus a hot cast can hardly ever go wrong.

The movie’s “spooky” element was a nice premise to keep the plot stimulated, (remember I am not giving any details away here), which seemed to put the kid’s paranoia in overdrive, and the ending twist was cool. Although it almost came off as lame, thank god it was the ending, and not revealed earlier or the film would have failed, much like “Cry Wolf”.  The effects and gore are there but not really allowed to be the focal point of the moment which is kind of a bummer but still it didn’t detract from the movie. “Bad Kids Go To Hell” is a fun, dark satire on High School life as well as basic social discourse that we all have to endure. Plus the subtext of how, based on generation gap and over extended lives, adults tend to view life and young people with a very distorted view outside of the reality that teens or young people in general experience (and vice versa). All in all this film is pretty excellent and a great addition for fans of 80’s throwbacks or contemporary American movies, although technically it isn’t a horror film it does have some pretty thrilling moments in true Draconian fashion. The real meat of the story lies with the way they reveal how each kid got sent into detention. The flashback is totally 90’s “here is how…” stylization. Plus for some reason I got an early Rodriquez vibe from the film.

Pagan Festival Shout Out!

lord ramaRam Navami (Devanāgarī: राम नवमी) also known as Sri Rama Navami (IAST SriRām-navamī) is a Hindu festival, celebrating the birth of Lord Rama to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya of Ayodhya. Ram is the 7th incarnation of the Dashavatara of Vishnu. Years later Lord Rama was married to Sita on the Vivaha Panchami. The sacred marriage of Devi Sita with Lord Rama was held on Margashirsha Shukla Panchami as per Valmiki Ramayana (This occasion is known as Seetha kalyanam). The Rama Navami festival falls in the Shukla Paksha on the Navami, the ninth day of the month of Chaitra in the Hindu calendar. Thus it is also known as Chaitra Masa Suklapaksha Navami, and marks the end of the nine-day Chaitra-Navratri celebrations.

In the epic Ramayana, Dasharatha, the Emperor from Ayodhya, had three wives named Kausalya, Sumitra and Kaikeyi in the Treta Yuga, which follows the Satya Yuga and is succeeded by Dwapara Yuga. Their greatest worry was that they had no children, and so they had no heir to the throne in the Ikshvaku Kula or royal lineage of great, pious, wonderful Emperors. Rishi Vasistha suggests him to perform Puthra Kamesti Yagna, through which he can have a desired child. He also tells him to invite Maharshi Rishyasringa to perform this yagna for him. Emperor Dasharatha consents and heads to Maharshi Rishyasringa's ashram, to invite him. Maharshi agrees and accompanies Emperor Dasharatha to Ayodhya (Capital of Avadha) and performs the yagna. As the result of this yagna, Yagneshwara appears and provides Dasharatha a bowl of divine pudding (Kheer/Payasam) and requests him to give it to his wives. Dasharatha gives one half of the payasam to his elder wife Kausalya, and another half to his younger wife Kaikeyi. They both give half of their portions to Sumitra. After few days all three Queens conceive. On the ninth day (Navami) of Chaithra Masa (first month in Vedic calendar), at noon Kausalya gives birth to Rama, Kaikeyi gives birth to Bharata, and Sumitra to twin boys,Lakshmana and Shatrughna.

Some highlights of this day include
  • Kalyanam, a ceremonial wedding performed by temple priests
  • Panakam, a sweet drink prepared on this day with jaggery and pepper.
  • Procession of murtis in the evening, accompanied by playing with water and colours.

How can we all incorporate elements of Ram Navami into our day to honor this festival’s sentiment? Well light a candle, white because most weddings utilize the color. Give to a children’s charity and restrict your diet. This festival is big on fasting and strict diet allowance. Implement a raw , organic veggie diet- no meat or dairy. And of course it is known that meditation promotes mental and physical healing. Oh yeah and wear bright colors as a symbol of the beauty of nature and flowers.

My Review Of “Infected” 2013

the infected“Infected” is the standard virus related zombie flick of modern horror. The film is directed by Glenn Ciano who also wrote the story and screenplay for the movie. It deals with a father and son on a weekend retreat with loved ones at the precipice of a viral outbreak that results in aggressive flesh eaters. It stars Michael Madsen, William Forsythe, Tom DeNucci, Christy Romano and Kristi Lynn.

“Infected” is a standard outbreak-zombie story that manages to tell a pretty good, entertaining nightmare scenario despite the fact that it offers nothing new to the genre. The acting is acceptable, although some of the cast have the cred to warrant a much better performance than they gave to this film. The biggest and most exciting aspect of the film for me was the title sequence with hottie-Tom DeNucci given us total porn fantasy in the tool shop. Man I could have watched two hours of him doing that! All that was missing was the cold water splash down after working up such a sweat. That sequence followed by the climax portion of the film where we return back to that swooning moment of the story really pleased me – a lot! (yeah I know-total perv here!) Anyway this doesn’t negate the fact that the acting and story was pretty well written and directed by Ciano.

The film did have very basic stripped down special effects which at times fail the film but for the most part they work just fine-quite frankly I am just thankful that the movie didn’t rely totally on CGI! The character driven moments that are intended to build suspense and emotional investment for the viewer seems to fall flat at moments, coming across more as over-exaggerated. However for the most part the complete result of the films ability to hold my attention was executed. I never really found my thoughts wondering  and I never became bored with the story. It is a really decent zombie outbreak film that also does nothing to detract from the genre that may seem over stuffed with the undead at the moment. I enjoyed the film, the action, the zombies, all in all the film is one of the better zombie flicks. I really liked the more stripped down, organic approach to horror that this film used to tell this story. Plus as I stated earlier that beginning sequence and end was hot! Wish there would have been more of that and of Tom DeNucci sexually exploited in the main portion of the movie but hey – it is horror not porn.

Image Picks Up “Mischief Night”

mischief-nightImage Entertainment has picked up the North American rights to “Mischief Night”. The film, produced by Ruthless Pictures is based on a pitch by Jesse Baget and Eric D. Wilkinson. The film has entered the production phase and will be helmed by Director Richard Schenkman. “Mischief Night” tells the story of a terrifying home invasion on the eve of Halloween. Young Emily Walton (Noell Coet), who has suffered from psychosomatic blindness ever since a car accident that took her mother’s life, must summon every instinct at her disposal to protect herself and her loved ones from a mysterious intruder.

The cast includes veteran actor Daniel Hugh Kelly (Cujo, Someone To Watch Over Me, The Good Son), as well as Ally Walker (“Sons of Anarchy,” While You Were Sleeping, Universal Soldier), Noell Coet (Cowgirls n’ Angels, 5 Time Champion), Charlie O’Connell (Dude, Where’s My Car, Cruel Intentions, “Sliders”), Erica Leerhsen (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Anything Else), Richard Riehle (Bridesmaids, A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas), Stephanie Erb (The Ring, Starship Troopers) and Ian Bamberg (Second Time Around, Warrior Road).

Richard Schenkman states that “Mischief Night” is not the typical genre movie. “This is not a horror film,” he said. “While I enjoy pictures like Scream, I think this movie has more in common with high-tension, claustrophobic thrillers like The Strangers, the French movie Them, and even the classic Wait Until Dark. While there is violence in the film, my plan is to minimize the gore and keep the effects realistic, as opposed to the stylized mayhem we see in other pictures.”  Wilkinson agrees. “I think people forget that movies like John Carpenter’s Halloween have very little blood or gore in the film. Eventually, that franchise embraced the blood and guts, but the original was all about the suspense, and I applaud Richard’s ‘less is more’ approach.”

“Dead Mine” Release Date

dead mineSteven Sheil’s “Dead Mine” is getting a DVD & Blu-ray release on May 28th. The film stars oe Taslim, Sam Hazeldine, and Miki Mizuno. XLRator Media will be giving a new packaged look for the Western release of the film. “Dead Mine” is HBO Asia’s first original production and was released in the Pan-Asian market at the end of last year in Singapore, followed by Philippines before a January release in Indonesia. I haven’t seen much of on this movie but CGI aside it has peaked my interest a bit.

A rich amateur treasure hunter assembles an expert group to investigate a possible location for the legendary Yamashita’s Gold – lost treasure looted from across Asia by Japanese forces during World War 2. Venturing deep into the jungles of a remote Indonesian island, the group finds itself under attack and forced into an apparently abandoned mine, only to become trapped underground in a Japanese Imperial Army bunker. They quickly realize that they are not alone, and face a desperate struggle to escape, or fight to the death.

“Alyce Kills” Release Date Announced

alyce killsThe black Indie film that hints at comedy (only mildly), and packs a seriously deadly punch, called “Alyce Kills” has finally been given a release date. The film will hit select theatres on May 24th 2013 following a VOD release on May 21st in partnership with Tribeca Films. Directed by Jay Lee “Alyce Kills” stars Tamara Feldman (HATCHET, “GOSSIP GIRL”), James Duval (DONNIE DARKO, DOOM GENERATION), Eddie Rouse (PANDORUM, UNDERTOW), Larry Cedar (THE CRAZIES), Yorgo Constantine (FAST FIVE), Megan Gallagher (“MILLENIUM”), Rena Owen (ONCE WE WERE WARRIORS), Tracey Walter (REPO MAN, BATMAN), Bret Roberts (MAY, NIGHTSTALKER), and Jade Dornfeld.

The story follows two best friends, reconnecting after a small period of "too close for comfort" in their relationship. However, after accidentally pushing best friend Carroll off the roof of a building, Alyce finds her world crumbling fast. It isn't long until she spirals into a reality of darkness, filled with drugs, reckless sex and homicidal impulses. The film is a dark satire, and utter gorefest, as viewed through Alyce's perspective.

“R.I.P.D.” Trailer Brings The Mayhem

RIPDThe trailer has released for the supernatural action movie “R.I.P.D.”, a film based on the graphic novel series by Peter M. Lenkov. The film stars Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges and is directed by Robert Schwentke. The film hits theatres this summer. I have to say based on the trailer I am super stoked for this film. I mean Bridges as a hot bodied blonde chick is all kinds of delicious and wrong! The action is standard high impact production CGI but with sci-fi and fantasy flicks which heavy action it is more than warranted. I am feeling a M.I.B vs Hellboy vibe from the trailer.

A recently slain cop joins a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department and tries to find the man who murdered him.

“Beware The Night” Movie Adaptation Details

Beware-The-Night-Book-The movie adaptation of supernatural thriller “Beware The Night” has given word on it’s leading cast members and other details. Screen Gems has named Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez and Olivia Munn to star in the film that reunites Clint Culpepper’s Sony-based company with The Exorcism Of Emily Rose duo of Scott Derrickson and Paul Boardman. Scott Derrickson while set as director for the thriller. Filming is slated to begin on May 10th.

A New York police investigates cases of demon possessions, exorcisms and werewolves. The books plot (which I am sure the film will try to hold true to) :  A sixteen-year NYPD veteran, Ralph Sarchie works out of the 46th Precinct in New York's south Bronx. But it is his other job that he calls "the Work": investigating cases of demonic possession and assisting in the exorcisms of humanity's most ancient--and most dangerous--foes. Now he discloses for the first time his investigation into incredible true crimes an inhuman evil that were never explained, solved, or understood except by Sarchie and his partner. Schooled in the rituals of exorcism, and an eyewitness to the reality of demonic possession, Ralph Sarchie has documented a riveting chronicle of the inexplicable that gives a new shape to the shadows in the dark.

Teaser Poster For “Where The Devil Hides”

where-the-devil-hides - CopyDirected by Christian E. Christiansen, “Where The Devil Hides” tells the story of the small village of New Bethlehem. It is a community deeply devout, and kept under the tight reins of the town's vigilant Elders. A strange occurrence takes place that sees six girls born on the same day to different mothers. Perhaps a coincidence or, as most believe, a chilling omen of something yet to come. Now, on the eve of their 18th birthday, the young women are mysteriously disappearing one by one and feared dead. Terror has overtaken this quiet community. Could this be the work of a serial killer, one of the village elders, or an horrific prophecy come true, born of the supernatural?

“Where The Devil Hides” stars Jennifer Carpenter, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Rufus Sewell, Thomas McDonell, Adelaide Kane, Leah Pipes, Colm Meaney, Stacey Edwards and Ric Reitz. And at this point in my watching Jennifer’s work I have to think she has a dark fetish for twisted shit (which I find an awesome thought) or she is truly a major horror buff! Demonic possessions, Serial Killers and the Devil have filled a lot of her psyche and resume. That’s hot as Hell! (In a completely platonic way of course-like hey gurrrl- you rock!) Anyway the film comes out this October in theatres, the 11th to be exact. So I for one can not wait! The poster was revealed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

“Detention Of The Dead” Finally Gets Release Date

detentionofdeadIt seems like forever since “Detention Of The Dead” first showed at festivals. Actually it was a year ago that the film first showed in the U.S. and now finally we have a release date for the horror comedy. The film will hit limited theatrical release on June 29th. The film stars Jacob Zachar, Alexa Nikolas, Christa B. Allen, Jayson Blair, Justin Chon, Max Adler and is directed by Alex Craig.

Comedy and horror unite in this “The Breakfast Club meets Shaun of the Dead” tale about a group of oddball high school students who find themselves trapped in detention with their classmates having turned into a horde of zombies. Can they put their differences aside and work together to survive the night? Fat chance! This is high school after all.

New Red Band Trailer For “Hemlock Grove” Series

poster

Check out the new red band trailer for Eli Roth’s “Hemlock Grove”. Although opinions are mixed about the series, I for one am eager to see this show. It has three things that I fucking love! Sex, Drugs and Monsters! The show is set to release all episodes on April 19th on Netflix. It is the only reason I joined the cult ( I mean site). “Hemlock Grove” stars stars Famke Janssen, Dougray Scott, Bill Skarsgård, Landon Liboiron, and Penelope Mitchell.

Hemlock Grove is a riveting one-hour murder mystery that revolves around the residents of a former Pennsylvania steel town. When 17-year-old Brooke Bluebell is brutally murdered, any of Hemlock’s peculiar inhabitants – or killer creatures – could be suspects. Through the investigation the town’s seamier side is exposed, revealing nothing is what it seems. Beautiful, terrifying, and graphic, “Hemlock Grove” is unlike anything else in its genre.
