Extreme Film Auteur Andrey Iskanov Needs Help Finishing Epic “INGRESSION”

ingression posterIf you do a Google search on something like “Most Disturbing Films Ever” or “100 Most Brutal Films” or “List of Most Extreme Films” you will inevitably find a list that has the film “Philosophy of A Knife” (2008) as the Number One film. If not number one, it will surely be in the top 20. Russian director Andrey Iskanov made a four-hour epic true story of the Japanese atrocities committed against Chinese citizens in what were the equivalent of Japanese Concentration Camps. His film captured all of the brutality of this, and for this reason “POAK” is considered the most brutal, extreme, violent, and sick film ever made.

Other works of Iskanov include "Gvozdi" ("Nails" in English) (2003), "Visions of Suffering" (2006) and "The Profane Exhibit" (2013).

For the past 6 years, Andrey has been working on his latest epic film, “INGRESSION”. Several years ago he unleashed an unfinished version of the film to the world under the title “The Tourist”. Despite the fact that Andrey felt it was incomplete, the film played at many European Film Festivals and won awards. It is a brilliant, but incomplete film. Andrey first needs to upgrade the quality by remastering the film, and then he needs to film more scenes to make the film the complete and epic masterpiece it was meant to be.

ingression imageUnfortunately, Andrey Iskanov is such an uncompromising film-maker that he has difficulty getting financial backing, and currently does not have the funds to finish shooting his masterpiece.

That is why Andrey Iskanov is asking for your help.

This epic masterpiece is going to be the film event of the year and possibly of the century. It is of extreme importance to supporters of underground art and extreme transgressive and surreal film that this film be made right, and that can only happen through your donation, or simply by spreading the word, posting this link on Facebook and twitter, even emailing it to friends. For the sake of art we must stand behind this project and make it happen.

As of last week, February 20, 2014, Andrey’s INDIEGOGO campaign has gone LIVE! You can head there right now to contribute. He is not asking for $100,000. Or $50,000. Or even half of that. Andrey simply needs $15,000 to finish the film. He needs to pay the dedicated actors in his films who are forced to undergo extreme and unpleasant experiences. He needs to pay for the film and the processing of the film. Very simple things. The film is already so close to complete.

Crowd Funding Has Kicked Off For Horror Short “CHAIN”

chainThe guys behind psychological horror short film “CHAIN” have kicked off their crowd funding for the project over on Indiegogo. The film follows a man who winds his way home through a series of corridors. With each step, his familiar surroundings begin to twist and morph; from something cold and unwelcoming into a dangerous and life threatening labyrinth of fear. As the corridors close in around him, the man desperately struggles to get to the safety of his apartment. Nothing, however, is more disturbing than what waits for him beyond the door.

Director Christopher Reith made this statement about the project, “What I want to create with CHAIN is a film set within its own hostile microcosm…The narrative is very tightly woven but allows and encourages the audience to form their own interpretations.”

My Review Of “America’s Alien Invasion: The Lost UFO Encounters” Documentary

america's alien invasion“America’s Alien Invasion: The Lost UFO Encounters” is a 2012 documentary that is a bit misleading based on the title. Yes it touches on the UFO encounters since the 1800’s in America, briefly but it never really exposes or gives us these “lost” encounters that the title taunts. It basically makes a power-point inspired presentation of someone’s added “two cents” about the UFO phenomenon in America. It really comes of more as some sort of essay or thesis based on the information already known, revealed and discussed to the level that it would only be new to someone who hasn’t hit puberty yet and still plays with toy dinos or cars, or maybe someone who has had their head in the sand for the last untold number of years. This stuff wasn’t new to me, nor I imagine would it be new to anyone with cable and a vague interest in alien or UFO information.

“America’s Alien Invasion” does offer some very nicely done illustration and art concept material instead of the more known representations of the material available that is commonly used with the events mentioned, it does offer a complete thesis of what is possibly taking place with this unexplained phenomenon, and is very specific to the situation with American alien encounters. What this documentary does not do is what the title suggests. It doesn’t focus specifically on an invasion plan directly, it doesn’t give us any “lost” files or incidents and it doesn’t seem to be a legitimate attempt to add to the cultural discussion beyond a desire to maybe cash in on the topic by taking advantage of UFO enthusiasts’ impulse to discover something new. A person would be better off tuning into the “Ancient Alien” series or purchasing the myriad other documentaries that actually do offer exploratory material in a hope to expose or shed light on the subject of aliens and UFOs. This is just a very wordy, lecture about a single belief from a vaguely informed point of view. Save your coins.

Not All Pregnancy Fears Revolve Around The AntiChrist...

...Unless of course fucking the AntiChrist may cause extreme emotional chaos that makes you think you are having spider-monster offspring... Ah but back to the real story about this cool new indie project.

UteroHow about a good pregnancy horror that doesn’t revolve around the coming AntiChrist, yeah it is possible as evident with upcoming nightmare flick “Utero”. The film is currently in production for Bryan Coyne’s Independent company Coinopflix. Coyne is writter and director of this horror film starring Jessica Cameron and Peter Stickles.

“Utero” follows an agoraphobic, unwed mother who finds her psyche unraveling as she becomes convinced that her unborn child is more monster than human. Filming began this week in Los Angeles for the film that Coyne is quoted as being the film that he has been dreaming of of making for some time.

“It is a bare, raw, disgusting but ultimately touching story that I can’t wait to tell. I'm honored and humbled to be making this film with my demonic partners in crime, producer Rich Marincic and new partners of Truth or Dare fame Jessica Cameron and Jonathan Higgins. I couldn't be more amped bringing this evil baby to term.” Says Bryan Coyne of the project.

Coyne has directed the baseball documentary Harvard Park (which is available now on Netflix), as well as the hotly anticipated horror movie Incarnate that will make its theatrical debut in the fall.

Jessica Cameron stated, “Utero is the most cerebral script I have ever read and I cannot wait to bring it to life! It is such an intense case study on these endlessly fascinating characters. Horror fans are going to love it!”

Also check out the creepy dark behind the scene shot posted to the film’s Facebook page today along with the first poster promoting the very interesting project that is a refreshing change from in utero nightmares about Man’s sin or zemon babies. This is one to definitely check out and is on my must watch list for upcoming horror.

Check Out The Teaser Trailer For Horror Anthology “Solitude”

Solitude-PosterA teaser trailer has been released for indie horror anthology “Solitude”. Directed by Taylor Scott Olson, Livingston Oden and starring Armin Habibovich, Victoria LaChelle, Brent Latchaw, Alex Cotant, Glen Stone, Kelly Lavasseur, Amy Correll, Nicole Kruex Solitude will take place over a span of 75 years on a mysterious riverfront piece of land where an ancient evil dwells. The story will be told in six segments, each of them taking place in a different time period and each of them made to look like horror films of when they take place. Check out the teaser below.

In 2014, James Erikson finds an old storage locker filled with journals and newspapers of his family's history. As he researches it, he finds out about the evil that his family has tried to contain for several generations.

This leads into the other segments of the film starting with 1935 all the way to 1999. 1939 - Frank Erikson is a scientist doing research in North Dakota when a mysterious monster attacks his research team. This will be reminiscent of classic monster movies of the time period, such as "The Mummy" or "Frankenstein". 1961 - Frank Erikson returns to the Solitude River to try to destroy the monster once and for all. This segment is influenced by Alfred Hitchcock's films, as well as other B-movie's of the 50's and 60's. 1977-Donald Erikson, Frank's son, is a real estate broker and is planning on building river homes in Solitude, but does not realize what the land holds. It is in the style of supernatural horror films of the 70's, such as "The Omen" or "The Exorcist". 1986 - And here's the slasher! A group of college friends are planning on spending a weekend camping and partying near the Solitude River, not knowing of the evils that dwell there. This segment takes influence from classic 80's slashers such as the "Friday the 13th" or "Nightmare on Elm Street" series. 1999 - The last segment before present day is going to be found footage, similar to "The Blair Witch Project". It follows a group of film students who heard the rumors of the deaths near Solitude and are shooting a documentary about them.

My Review Of “Psychophony: An Experiment In Evil”

psychophony“Psychophony: An Experiment In Evil” is a paranormal thriller from Spanish director Xavier Berraondo that follows a theory that aspects of schizophrenia under the label of psychophony (auditory hallucinations) has a very tangible paranormal component for some patients. The film stars Ferran Albiol, Raul Alvarez, Dafnis Balduz, Ferran Carvajal, Leyla Fernandez, Merce Montala, and Miriam Planas Claudia Pons, not that many of us here in America would recognize the actors I just like to give them props. This film was released in 2012 and has some pretty great reviews so it was relaxing to sit down to review this foreign flick myself.

The story deals with Dr. Helen Jara, who in the mid 2000’s carried out a series of psychological experiments on a group of patients with schizophrenia. Dr. Jara, attempting to prove that these patients' hallucinations were of paranormal origin, creates unsanctioned experiments that result in her death along with Parapsychologist Matias Kram, and his assistant. The authorities discover EVP’s and other evidence of paranormal activity.  The youngest patient has the most directed paranormal interaction being attacked by the entity. The movie is actually a reenactment of the experiment and events that happened with “real video” and “real EVP” clips patchworked into the story.

For me, “Psychophony” is proof the Euro horror can be boobless, assless, and goreless and still be entertaining. The film offers a mixture of “found footage” elements wrapped in a perfect chilling surreal melodrama. The acting and directing in this film is pretty tight with very few moments of “down time”, where dramatic hook is concerned. The character study combined with the almost stoic personalities of the characters creates a nerving atmosphere. There is no emotion until emotion is needed in the approach to this film so when the drama does unfold it becomes heightened and tense. The paranormal aspect to the story is as chilling as it gets plus the whole “is it for real or just media ploy” aspect to the stories foundation (the experiments themselves) adds a discomforting component that kept me on guard. Normally you would expect this to hinder the entertainment value but Berraodo weaves in portions of the “real” stuff so seamlessly and effortlessly that it just adds an extra creep factor to the film’s context.

The special effects are kind of on the cheaper side (think Syfy channel) but they are done with complete respect to effect to the overall film. There is no gore or nudity so this would easily be a full family sort of scare film. If your family doesn’t mind subtitles. All in all “Psychophony” continues a strong line of horror in the Spanish community and over all European horror community in general. The story is captivating, the acting is believable, and the frights are hitting. It ends on a kind of expected cliché moment but considering this is all genuine events being retold it all works to bring a pretty cool paranormal story to horror fans.

Pagan Festival Shout Out: Terminalia

_TerminusTerminalia was an ancient Roman festival in honor of the god Terminus, who presided over boundaries. His statue was merely a stone or post stuck in the ground to distinguish between properties. The god Terminus was not the original cause for the celebration of the Terminalia. He was in fact created, an example of the open-minded thinking of Roman religion and its animistic and numinal character, to serve as a god for the existing Terminalia and not vice versa. On the festival the two owners of adjacent property crowned the statue with garlands and raised a rude altar, on which they offered up some corn, honeycombs, and wine, and sacrificed a lamb or a sucking pig. They concluded with singing the praises of the god.

Ovid refers to the sacrifice of a sheep on the day of the Terminalia at the sixth milestone from Rome along the Via Laurentina; it is likely this was thought to have marked the boundary between the early Romans and their neighbors in Laurentum. Also, a stone or altar of Terminus was located in the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus on Rome's Capitoline Hill. Because of a belief that this stone had to be exposed to the sky, there was a small hole in the ceiling directly above it.

The festival of the Terminalia was celebrated a. d. VII. Kal. Mart., or the 23d of February on the day before the Regifugium. The Terminalia was celebrated on the last day of the old Roman year, whence some derive its name. We know that February was the last month of the Roman year, and that when the intercalary month Mercedonius was added, the last five days of February were added to the intercalary month, making the 23d of February the last day of the year.
