Gore Throwback “Lights Camera Blood!” Set for a limited Bluray/VHS Release

SRS Cinema is excited to bring you the blood-soaked homage “Lights Camera Blood!” to limited edition Blu-Ray and VHS this Sunday night!  “Lights Camera Blood!” tells the tale of a down on his luck filmmaker forced to turn to snuff films to live the Hollywood dream.  It’s a fun-filled Drive-In style throwback to the works of the “Godfather of Gore” himself, H.G. Lewis, such as “Blood Feast” and “The Wizard of Gore”.

Synopsis:
“Down on his luck and financially strapped low budget horror filmmaker Mandalor is the laughing stock of the film community. His films are terrible and the contrived, poorly done gore-effects make them unintentional comedies of the cinema.   When he presents his latest effort to sleazy, exploitation film producer, Gelstein of Gorrific Pictures, with the hopes of getting a distribution deal, he is laughed out of the screening room.   But the ever-determined Mandalor, along with his trusty hunch-backed cinematographer Rodney, set out to do another horror film.  But on their next set,  as Mandalor tries in vain to direct an intoxicated and uncooperative actress, he accidentally kills her! And when he realizes Rodney captured the dastardly deed on camera, he includes the graphic footage in his film.  When he screens it to an impressed and delighted Gelstein, the producer offers him a multi-picture deal to deliver more gore galore! Now a wretched plan hatches that only filmmakers with nerves of steel could carry out, along with a hatchet or an cleaver... “

“Lights Camera Blood!” was written and directed by Kevin Doherty and stars Alan MacKenzie, Dan Baker-Moor and Heather Russell.  The Bluray release will be limited to just 100 units, while the VHS just 25. There will be unique artwork for each of these releases and they go live Sunday night 4/3 @ 7p,m EST.   A national release of the movie on DVD will be coming this Fall from MVD, and VOD will follow as well.

"SHE SINGS TO THE STARS" Comes Home To New Mexico

A new feature film shot in New Mexico titled She Sings to the Stars, challenges audiences to ponder that question as our world is turned upside down. After winning “Best Feature” at the Toronto Independent Festival, the"Audience Award" and "Best Actor” at the Vermont International Film Festival this fall, She Sings to the Stars will screen in Albuquerque on April 20 at the KiMo Theatre at 5:30 PM as part of the Albuquerque Film and Music Experience.

Produced by Circeo Films of Monkton, VT, the film has also been selected by festivals like Montreal World, Red Nation (Los Angeles), Blow-up Arthouse (Chicago), Queens World (New York), and American Indian (San Francisco).

Producer Jonnie Corcoran adds: "This is a quintessentially New Mexican film and story.” She Sings to the Stars was shot in the Rio Puerco Valley around Cabezon, and in a Santa Fe warehouse. The story is about drought, a collision of cultures and hope: without water, a Native American grandmother lives alone in the desert. Her half-Mexican grandson is caught between worlds. A white down-on-his-luck magician from Los Angeles finds himself lost at her door.

The film features Fannie Loretto of Jemez Pueblo in the role of Mabel, the grandmother, and Jesus Mayorga of Albuquerque in the role of Third, her grandson. Almost the entire crew were New Mexicans, including the line producer, production designer, composer, editor and the VFX  team.

John Perkins, founder of Dream Change calls She Sings to the Stars "a break-through film that blazes a new trail into the forests of consciousness." The film raises enduring questions, yet touches on the zeitgeist when it comes to the current ecological crises of the planet and the human spirit, asking: What exactly is 'reality'? What is 'magic'? And who are the real magicians?

Ira Jaffe, founder and former Chair of the Cinematic Arts Department at the University of New Mexico and author of ‘Slow Movies: Countering the Cinema of Action,’ writes: “Jennifer Corcoran’s She Sings to the Stars tells an uncommon motion picture story. In this film, events occur slowly and with deliberation, giving the spectator time to consider their meaning in relation to human identity, the desert and sky, day and night, past and future. See She Sings to the Stars to learn more about the rain and hope."

Described as "a film to be experienced", She Sings to the Stars takes time so viewers have to make the decision to be a part of it. Actor Sam Waterston observes: "It's not an ordinary look at the world - you will find the images and the vision coming back to mind long after you've finished watching. Watch it on the biggest screen you can get at: in this movie, the size of the night sky matters."

She Sings to the Stars is the directorial debut of Jennifer Corcoran, a film she wrote and directed. Recalls Ms. Corcoran, “I first met Mabel - the grandmother character in the film - in a dream.” Mabel said, ‘It's time to sing the song. Listen. It will take you four years.’ I followed the clues, constructed three life-size, newspaper-stuffed dressed figures of the characters and listened to them whisper the bones of the story.”

“The 21st Century finds us parched and hurried; we have commodified nature with little awareness of our vital symbiosis. We seem thirsty for connection, for meaning, wearied by worn concepts and the (persistent) promise of that other dream, Ê»the American dream.ʼ Mabel is not in a hurry; as a grandmother, she is a container, the keeper of timelessness reflected by an expansive desert, an endless night sky.
Little seems to happen in her world, yet in this container of timelessness - now, and only now - anything is possible.”

The Albuquerque screening will coincide with a crowdfunding campaign on Seed and Spark to raise money to distribute the film.

She Sings to the Stars is scheduled to screen on:

Wednesday, April 20 at 5:30 PM
KiMo Theater
423 Central Avenue NW, Albuquerque
Tickets: $8.00 at abqfilmx.com or kimotickets.com

She Sings to the Stars:
United States 2015, 103 mins.

Conversations About Fungus And Fighting: An Interview With Actor/Producer Jenae Alt

Jenae Alt is a Michigan native who is quickly gaining recognition as a female producer on the rise in Hollywood. Her passion is to develop compelling projects that educate, enlighten, and entertain people.   Her latest short film project "Fruit of the Fungus" is currently touring the festival circuit and she is gearing up to shoot a gritty feature film called "Fight Like A Girl" - which can be described as "Fight Club" for the ladies.

A Southern Life: Please tell us about yourself?

Jenae Alt: I am an actress/producer who enjoys collaborating with ambitious and talented filmmakers to create memorable and high-concept work.

A Southern Life: What are the three words that best describe you?

Jenae Alt: Loyal, determined, and compassionate.

A Southern Life: How did you get your start in the industry?

Jenae Alt: Adam Sandler gave me my first speaking role in the movie "The Longest Yard." He played a major role in launching my career and gave me the courage and strength to go on and produce my own projects. I was initially only on set to do some background work but I was focused to secure bigger and better and I was blessed to elevate my status.

A Southern Life: What do you love most about acting?

Jenae Alt: My favorite aspect is the notion of being able to become a character that somebody else imagined in their head. I love capturing the essence of a real person and adding creative layers so the role comes to life and has meaning.
 By
A Southern Life: Tell us about your unique project “The Ladies Room”?

Jenae Alt: The Ladies Room takes you on a journey of self discover and life lessons in a Twilight Zone fashion. When the cattiness between two women escalates, where do they go to settle their disputes? Three words: The Ladies Room. Why do you think girlfriends usually go in pairs to the ladies room? To gossip? To take drugs? To enable each other's bulimia? Well, maybe all of the above but they also go together to watch each other's back, because when 'cougars in training' get together in clusters, things can go south quickly. You can watch the trailer here -https://vimeo.com/90088896

A Southern Life: Is there anything you regret as an actress?

Jenae Alt: I wish I would have been more selective of the roles I chose early on in my career. But every role is a learning curve and has got me to where I am today. I love producing and starring in indie projects because I can dictate the theme and mood of the piece and have a lot more creative control. My latest short film "Fruit of the Fungus" is about a famous winemaker who leaves a mysterious map on his deathbed and his son and daughter must unite to find its true meaning. We are submitting to festivals and you can watch the entire piece here - www.vimeo.com/picknroll/fruitofthefungus

A Southern Life: Tell us about your future projects?

Jenae Alt: I'm developing a handful of TV pilots to shop to the networks and I'm working hard to secure a budget for my feature film project "Fight Like a Girl." I'm working hard to attach some elite MMA fighters like Holly Holm.

A Southern Life: What's the best advice you have ever been given?

Jenae Alt: Your achievements will never disappoint you.

A Southern Life: Where can we follow you?

My Review Of "Crying Wolf"

"Crying Wolf" is a British horror/Comedy directed by Tony Jopia. The film stars Caroline Munro, Kristofer Dayne, Gabriela Hersham, Rosie Pearson, Gary Martin, Ian Donnelly, Marco Radice, John R. Walker, Chloe Farnworth and Joe Egan. "Crying Wolf" flips the script on the Werewolf story by placing the mythic beast as prey to an all too human predator.

Synopsis: Crying Wolf tells the story of strange and weird goings on in a little English village called Deddington. The gruesome death of local girl Charlotte by a rabid monster causes alarm and revulsion - before desperate reporters, crazy detectives and revenge seeking hunters descend on the scene.

Jopia's story is a fun, quick-witted twist to the Werewolf tale. The movie places the beast as unsuspecting prey against the vengeful. "Crying Wolf" has some colorful and interesting characters that are well developed. Some more so than others. The film is more comedy than horror, but with plenty of spooky nicely shot scenes offering the creature in all its costumey glory. I enjoyed the beast- visually and characteristically in "Crying Wolf". Plus the cast give nice performances as the individuals in the pack.

The special effects are a mixed bag of cool, gory practical effects, and weak disappointing CGI. Jopia does choose the moments for CGI very wisely and frames the scenes in a creative way that make watching the CGI easier for those of us who find the computer animation a turn-off in horror. Oddly enough the thing that makes " Crying Wolf" fall a bit flat is the hokey way the story is set up as comedic schtick, vignettes and flashbacks combined with a cheesy soundtrack more reminiscent of soap operas and webseries.

Overall "Crying Wolf" falls somewhere in the middle of good and bad. There are some quality moments where story and character really entertain and thrill, then there are those pesky times when CGI and dialog fail to sell the story. As a werewolf story this one is weak at beast, as a Brit horror/Comedy it is mediocre, but as for creative , Indie story- "Crying Wolf manages a decent and sometimes amusing tale. The creature design and wittiness are the best aspects for sure!

My Review Of "OMG! We're In A Horror Movie"

Ajala Bandele's horror Comedy "OMG! We're In A Horror Movie" attempts to play on the cliché and somewhat amusing aspects of traditional slasher archetypes. The Indie flick starsBrendan Mcgowan, Sharon Mae, Shanna Malcolm, Nils Janson, Chris Hampton, and Ajala Bandele. It is out now for fans of the horror Comedy subgenre to check out, just be warned that "OMG! We're In A Horror Movie" falls short when compared to the humorous and spoof-filled films that it aims to be like.

The story Bandele gives us is a great conceptual romp with some awesome potential. Unfortunately the originality and creativity gets lost among overused and played out situations and gimmicks. Most of what "OMG! We're In A Horror Movie" offers can be seen in other horror comedies with better results. This film misses on the funny on many levels. Don't get me wrong, the movie has some softer moments of entertainment and genuinely funny moments, just not enough to sustain the entire film.

The acting and cinematography are great. The cast are committed to the characters, and some cast give quick, witty performances of a well-written script. Most of what fails "OMG! We're In A Horror Movie" is that pesky lack of originality and loss of humor due to poor comedic timing. Ajala Bandele does hit the mark on some of his direction he takes with the film, the atmosphere and quick report between the characters keep the scenes moving nicely.

Overall "OMG! We're In A Horror Movie" fails simply due to a lack of creative and original story design. Mostly missed opportunity with more developed kill scenes, and spoofier dramatics that could have been amped up a bit more. The musical score was a bright spot, so was the actual characters themselves. But the slasher Comedy has been done over and over and better. Watch with an understanding that there isn't a lot happening in "OMG! We're In A Horror Movie" that is entertaining. : (

Scottish Slasher 'Bridal Fever' Launches Kickstarter Blood (& Guts) Drive

Scottish Slasher 'Bridal Fever' Launches Kickstarter Blood (& Guts) Drive

Marital Bliss Turns Bloody in Directorial Debut from Hayley Tinline

Established special effects make-up artist Hayley Tinline seeks support from horror fans for her first gutsy foray into directing. Hayley has produced the effects for a number of recent Scottish indies including cult hit Lord of Tears and upcoming horror The Unkindness of Ravens. Hungry to tell her own stories using her extensive knowledge of practical effects, she is now turning her hand to directing.

Her debut feature Bridal Fever is an ambitious slasher inspired by 70s classics such as Alice Sweet Alice and Black Christmas with a gritty, grindhouse edge. Hayley plans to use her unique practical effects skill set to devise and create some of the most imaginative and horrific cinematic deaths imaginable. The film, set to begin shooting mid-April tells the story of Lisa, a troubled young woman plagued by cruel memories of a monstrous childhood. Now married, Lisa thinks that she's finally escaped the seething rage trapped within her...until the moment she witnesses the love of her life cheating with a naive teenage girl.

This is a mistake that husband Stuart may quite literally pay for with his life. The film follows Stuart, his lover and their friends as they explore the ruins of an old children's hospital. They are not alone, however, and soon find themselves fleeing for their lives in a night of unparalleled violence and mayhem. One by one, the friends are pursued and subjected to an array of unspeakable horrors dished out by our bloodthirsty bride.
Starring alternative model and actress Nicolette McKeown as the bloodthirsty bride and Craig MacLachlan as the cheating husband, the film will draw on some of Scotland's finest upcoming film talents thanks to Hayley's connections in the industry. 'Folk have really rallied around the project. I'm very lucky to have so many talented people working to make this low-budget indie something special. I can't wait to get this twisted nightmare of a story onto the screen!'
The film will be the latest in a flurry of indie horrors to come out of Scotland such as Grant McPhee's Night Kaleidoscope and Lawrie Brewster's The Unkindness of Ravens, both due for release later this year. With much emphasis lately on the lack of women in film, in directorial roles in particular, it's important that we get behind a project like this, devised and driven by new and ambitious female talent. Hayley and her team are seeking a modest £2500 to pay for the make-up supplies they need to create their gore effects, with Hayley herself putting up the remainder of the film's budget, so there's really no excuse not to back this grisly little gem!
- Fun fact: Hayley's own wedding will take place just a couple of months after the shoot! Hopefully she's not struck down by bridal fever herself!

Hank Boyd Is Dead is a pitch black comedy of (t)errors that follows, in real time, a hapless caterer held hostage by a bickering family of sociopaths.
Written and directed by emerging filmmaker Sean Melia, this captivating tale of dysfunction and deceit has already won the award for Best Drama at the Atlanta Horror Film Festival and named a Platinum Awardwinning film by Spotlight Horror.
Says writer / director Sean Melia: “I started with the idea of examining what it would be like to be part of the family of a killer on the level of Dahmer or Bundy, and after their execution, who would be left to grieve and who would be blamed? But then I thought, what if he didn't do it?  What if it was his brother, and a woman hired to cater after the funeral found out? And from that came the psychopathic soap opera that is the Boyd family, an homage to all the clever, creepy stories that I grew up with and loved.”
The film was written to be made in a week (“it was all the time I could afford to take off!” says Melia) and was shot over eight days on a micro budget, utilizing every resource available. The director’s childhood home in Edison, New Jersey became the set and the cast was comprised largely of veteran NYC theater and television actors that had collaborated on several of Melia’s past projects. The end result is a smart, fast paced and twisted take on classic horror tropes which audiences love.
The ensemble cast give incredible performances that strike the perfect balance between absurdity and satire. Starring Stefanie E. Frame (Sarah Walsh), David Christopher Wells (David Boyd), Liv Rooth (Aubrey Boyd), Carole Monferdini (Beverly Boyd), and Michael Hogan (Ray Moon), Hank Boyd is Dead is written and directed by Sean Melia and produced by Sean Melia and Michael Hogan. Cinematography by Joseph White, Editing and Sound Design by Sean Melia, Visual Effects byChase Gordon, Music by Chase Horseman, Audio Mix and Master by Rob Daly, and Calibration by Dustin Blowes.
